Clearing a US car through customs in Kyrgyzstan in 2026: EAEU duty, right-hand drive, documents

· 7 წუთი · Bg Cars

Kyrgyzstan is one of the largest buyers of cars that pass through Georgia: according to Geostat, more than 16,000 cars were re-exported there in January–September 2026. Below: how customs clearance of a US car works in Kyrgyzstan, what is banned and which documents you need. Data as of November 2026.

Kyrgyzstan in the EAEU: what it means for customs

Kyrgyzstan is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Duty on a car from a third country — including the USA — is calculated under the EAEU Common Customs Tariff. Clearance happens in Kyrgyzstan: the car moves through Georgia and Kazakhstan in transit and is cleared at Kyrgyz customs.

What the payments consist of

We do not publish amounts: they depend on the car's value and the exchange rate. Customs clearance consists of three payments:

  • Customs fee — for processing, calculated from the car's value.
  • Import duty — under the EAEU Common Customs Tariff.
  • VAT — charged on the car's value together with the duty.

Beyond customs, there are costs for registration and number plates.

What the duty depends on

  • New or used.
  • Age — counted from the manufacture date. For a US car this is not the model year: the date is on the sticker in the driver's door jamb.
  • Engine type — petrol, diesel, hybrid, electric.
  • Engine size.

That is why we check the manufacture date and the engine before bidding — the final amount depends on them.

Right-hand drive is banned — US cars qualify

Importing right-hand-drive cars into Kyrgyzstan has been banned since 2015. Cars from US auctions are left-hand drive, so the ban does not affect them.

Electric cars: the 2026 quota is used up

In 2026, electric cars entered Kyrgyzstan duty-free within an EAEU quota (Eurasian Economic Commission Council Decision No. 111 of 5 December 2025). By the end of September 2026 the quota had been used up. Whether the benefit will exist in 2027 — check before buying an EV.

The car body import ban does not affect whole cars

Kyrgyzstan has a temporary ban on importing separate passenger car bodies — it targets «kit cars» assembled from parts. It does not apply to whole cars from auctions.

Documents

  • Auction (Copart or IAAI) invoice.
  • Title — the US ownership document.
  • Export declaration of the country of export.
  • Bill of Lading and transport documents (CMR).
  • Transit documents for Georgia and Kazakhstan.

The documents that pass through us — the auction invoice, Title, Bill of Lading and Georgian transit documents — we hand over together with the car in Poti or Batumi. For registration in Kyrgyzstan you will also need local documents, including proof of conformity with technical requirements — confirm the exact list when registering.

Where clearance takes place

The car is cleared at Kyrgyz customs — for example, at the МТО «Автомобильный» customs post in Bishkek. According to Kyrgyzstan's customs service, 88% of passenger cars there are processed in under 10 minutes — when the documents are ready.

Kazakhstan's rules and transit

A car bound for Kyrgyzstan crosses Kazakhstan in transit and is cleared in Kyrgyzstan. Kazakhstan's new restrictions (5 years, Euro-5) apply to imports for personal use in Kazakhstan. Confirm the transit conditions with your carrier. More on Kazakhstan's rules — in our article importing a car to Kazakhstan in 2026.

What this means when choosing a car

Check the manufacture date and engine size — they set the duty. Avoid flooded (Water/Flood) and burnt (Burn) cars. How to choose and check a lot — in our Copart and IAAI guide (it works for buyers from Kyrgyzstan too). The route — in from Georgia to Kyrgyzstan.

Rules may change. Check the current requirements before buying or contact us. Our service for Kyrgyzstan is on the cars from the USA to Kyrgyzstan page.
