Shipping a car from Georgia to Armenia: the route from Poti to Yerevan, the border and timelines
Of all the neighbouring countries, Armenia is the closest destination for US cars arriving in Georgia. The route is overland across a single border — no ferry and no transit through third countries.
The route, stage by stage
1. USA → Poti or Batumi
The car is loaded into a container at a US port; the ocean leg usually takes 3–5 weeks. You can follow the ship in our container tracking.
2. Transit through Georgia
The car is not cleared in Georgia — no Georgian excise or VAT. We prepare the transit/re-export paperwork and hand the car over to you or your carrier in Poti or Batumi.
3. The road to the border
From Poti or Batumi south across Georgia to the Armenian border. The main crossing for car carriers and trucks is Sadakhlo (Georgia) — Bagratashen (Armenia). There are other crossings too: Guguti — Gogavan and Ninotsminda — Bavra.
4. The border and customs in Armenia
Entry is processed at the border, then comes the customs terminal (usually in Yerevan), clearance, technical inspection and registration.
Driven or on a car carrier
The Georgia–Armenia border is open to passenger cars, so a roadworthy car can be driven across — on transit plates issued in Georgia for cars leaving the country. Damaged and non-running cars travel on a car carrier.
