Copart and IAAI for buyers from Kazakhstan: how to buy a car at a US auction
Copart and IAAI are the largest car auctions in the USA. A buyer from Kazakhstan can take part through a broker: the broker provides auction access, places the bid and arranges delivery. Below: how this works with us, step by step.
Why through a broker
Many lots on Copart and IAAI are available only to buyers with a dealer licence. A broker bids from a licensed account, pays the auction for the lot and is responsible for collecting the car from the yard. You do not need an auction account or a trip to the USA.
Step 1. Choosing a lot
Search for cars in our Copart and IAAI search or send us a link to a lot. For Kazakhstan, rule out straight away any car older than 5 years by manufacture date and any engine over 3 litres — more in our article which car to choose.
Step 2. Checks before bidding
- VIN history — mileage, accidents, previous sales. You can check it in our VIN check.
- Manufacture date — the sticker in the driver's door jamb (not the model year).
- Damage type — Front End, Side, Rear, Hail, Water/Flood, Burn. Avoid Water/Flood and Burn.
- Start status — «Run and Drive» on Copart or «Starts» / «Run & Drive» on IAAI means the car started (and moved) at check-in. It is not a guarantee that the car is sound.
- Document type (Title) — Clean, Salvage and others. Confirm which document the lot has.
- Whether keys are present.
Step 3. Bidding
You tell us your maximum, we bid on your behalf. Auctions run online on US time — for Kazakhstan that is usually evening or night. IAAI auction times in Tbilisi time are on our IAAI auction time page (Kazakhstan is one hour ahead of Tbilisi). Watch the sale status: with «Pure Sale» the lot goes to the highest bidder, while with «On Approval» or a minimum bid the seller may reject the final price. There is also «Buy Now» — an instant purchase at a fixed price.
Step 4. Payment and yard pickup
After you win, the auction issues an invoice: the lot price plus auction fees. Payment is due within a short deadline — otherwise storage charges apply. The car is then collected from the yard and taken to the port of departure.
Step 5. Ocean shipping to Georgia
At the US port the car is loaded into a container and shipped to Poti or Batumi — usually 3–5 weeks at sea. You can follow the ship in our tracking.
Step 6. Transit and handover in Georgia
The car is not cleared through customs in Georgia — it moves in transit. We prepare the transit documents and hand over the car and paperwork (invoice, Title, Bill of Lading) to you or your carrier in Poti or Batumi. Then comes the journey to Kazakhstan across the Caspian: in detail in our article route Georgia → Kazakhstan.
Copart or IAAI
Copart is the largest platform with the widest choice of lots; IAAI mostly sells cars from insurance companies, with detailed photos and condition reports. A detailed comparison — in our article Copart or IAAI.
